What's New on The Board

NEBHDCo has been busy planning new housing for our community and establishing key real estate development partnerships with private and public sector partners and local partners to create new housing units that address the needs of low, moderate and middle income families living in central Brooklyn. Community support for the projects we plan and propose for our community involves local public hearings and presentations within the neighborhoods affected. This feedback provides us with critical information about the needs and desires for the types of housing projects within the surrounding neighborhoods of local residents.

Two New 7 Story Mixed-Use Buildings for Myrtle Avenue

NEBHDCo forms local partnership with Bridge Street Development Corporation and local architect, Michael Ivanhoe McCaw to develop new mixed-use housing project on Myrtle Avenue. The partnership is a collaboration by local organizations with direct roots in the community and experience in the development of affordable housing efforts in central Brooklyn.
The proposed project referred to as “Marcy/Nostrand”, for predevelopment purposes consists of the new construction of a mixed-use residential and commercial development on two (2) separate, but, adjacent city-owed, continuous vacant lots on Myrtle Avenue between Marcy and Nostrand Avenues. Myrtle Avenue is a major thoroughfare to Downtown Brooklyn, which is heavily traveled by both pedestrians and vehicular traffic along the east-west corridor with subway and bus service available within close proximity of the project site.

Marcy/Nostrand will consist of two seven (7) story masonry structures with 18,000 square feet of commercial/retail space at the street level along Myrtle Avenue and 114, 000 square feet of residential floor area on the upper six (6) floors. A total of eighty-eight (88) modern dwelling units consisting of thirty-three (33) 1-bedrooms, (44) 2-bedrooms and (11) 3-bedroom dwelling units within the two building complex; with an average apartment sizes of 650 sq. ft. for a one bedroom, 1,000 sq. ft. for a two-bedroom and 1,300 sq. ft. for a three-bedroom apartment. The buildings will contain ancillary space consisting of a 3,600 square foot community/recreational space, an outdoor roof garden will be provided on the second floor of site number one. There will also be a roof top garden on the seventh floor and several units will have private terraces.
